In this extremely exciting game of the Eastern conference play off game one at Madison square garden the Celtics took on the Knicks. And this game did not disappoint, great crowd, explosive plays, it had it all…
Lets kick of with some stats for this great game. Firstly the Celtics. Jeff Green came away with 26 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. Paul Pierce got 21 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Avery Bradley got 15 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists.
Now for the Knicks. Carmelo Anthony came away with 36 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist. Raymond Felton got 13 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists. And of the bench J.R. Smith got 15 points and 5 rebounds.
The game started of fast paced with a thunderous New York crowd, definitely playing as the 6th man for the Knicks. The Knicks started of great, Carmelo Anthony as usual taking charge of the ball game, but the Celtics where not far behind, also playing fast and good with Jeff Green scoring and coming out hot. Throughout the first quarter the game was close, the Knicks taking the lead for most of the game, only by a couple of points at a time with the Celtics right behind them. Late in the quarter the Celtic took the lead and seemed to take control of the game with J.Green scoring a great 3 pointer at the very end to put the Celtics 29 – 26 up at the quarter. with Green scoring 8 points while Anthony scored 13 points.
Again the game came out fast, the players where ready for the action and the crowd where definitely ready for the action. The ball game kept me watching, it was fast, high scoring, back and forth, a general great ball game and best of all there was nothing in this game, any team could take the lead at any point, but not for long because the other team would be straight back in the game. Carmelo Anthony did a beautiful spin and 2 point jump shot that got the crowd thunderous, but the Celtics did seem to silence the New York crowd with J.Green scoring 20 points in the first half, (12 points second quarter) with Anthony seeming to be kept quit but still scoring 19 points this half. In this exciting ball game the half ended 53 – 49 Celtics.
Both teams came out after the half starting off slower on offense than they did in the beginning of the game, with Carmelo Anthony hitting a 3 pointer to score the first points of the half after 2 and a half minutes. The game was still a tight ball game at the half way point of the third quarter, still a very much exciting game and the crowd still playing as the 6th man. C.Anthony found his game again after a couple of sloppy plays in the last quarter,he did the usual really, he scored, he played good ball. The Celtics where also playing great, the overall quarter again was a banger, entertaining, action packed as previous quarters, with a nice back and forth, still anybody’s game. Celtics did take their biggest lead in the last minute, taking a 7 point lead with the quarter coming to an end. Boston averaged 44% shooting while the Knicks averaged 41% shooting, ending the quarter 70 -67 to the Celtics.
The knicks came out strong taking the lead early on in the fourth, the crowd was so loud and in to the ball game. The Celtics with a slow start with their first points coming after 5 minutes into the fourth quarter. With the fourth at the half way point the Knicks look to be getting the better of the Celtics, in my opinion the home crowd was a big factor in this, but the Celtics where still very much in the ball game but did look like they where finding it hard to score late on. this is why everyone loves the playoffs though, its so exciting and anything can happen here. But with the sloppiness of the Celtics in the last couple of minutes gave away points to the knicks The Celtics finished with 41%shooting and the knicks finished with 41% shooting. The Knicks did prove to be too much for the Celtics winning the game 85 – 78 only giving 8 points in the fourth quarter.
